Poggio al Tufo
In 1997, the Tommasi family bought an estate in Pitgliano (province of Grosseto), giving birth to the “Project Tuscany”: POGGIO AL TUFO. The Pitigliano Estate extends for 66 hectares of vineyards are cultivated on volcanic soil, rich in tuff.
A few years later, the project was further expanded with the acquisition of the Doganella Estate, 24 hectares fully dedicated to organic vine-coltivation, and the Scansano Estate, 80 hectares in the heart of the DOC Morellino zone.
Doganella is a stunning 24 hectare estate completely dedicated to the organic cultivation of grapes whilst fully respecting the environment and nature. Doganella is located in the heart of Maremma Toscana (Tuscany), in Pitigliano. The microclimate is typical of this area of Southern Tuscany: a hot and dry climate, with little rainfall in the summer and temperate breezes throughout the year from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea.
The balanced sunlight, the soft rolling hills and the volcanic soil rich in tuff stone, represent the main characteristics of the quality of this area perfect from which to obtain very good grapes, and therefore excellent wines.
From the foundation in 1902,
